Reverse Engineering: The Sincerest Form of Flattery?

Chinese automakers are reverse engineering in a way that would make the Times Square “Rolex” salesmen blush.

Here is a picture of a Mercedes Benz C-Class, followed by a picture of the Chinese copy:

Here’s a picture of the BMW X5, followed by a picture of its Chinese copy:

Here’s the BMW logo and the Chinese Company’s (BYD) logo:

This is not limited to German car companies.  Here’s the Toyota logo and the Chinese copy:

Logos and body styles are relatively easy to copy.  Materials and craftsmanship are not.  Should be interesting to see what happens when these start arriving in showrooms in the US and around the world in the next couple of years.
